Bio

Doug Heighington CFA, MBA

Doug Heighington is a native and active citizen of Toronto.
Raised in Rosedale, he has lived in North Toronto, Hillcrest, and now lives in ‘The Republic of Rathnelly’. Doug went to high school at Jarvis Collegiate, attended Trinity College at the University of Toronto and then obtained an MBA from Queens University in Kingston.

For 30 years Doug worked at a variety of firms in the Toronto investment business, in capacities ranging from detailed financial analysis to the creation, marketing and launch of new products and the development of new sales forces. From this experience he brings to clients: financial acumen, strong negotiating skills, an understanding of value and an instinctive marketing flair.

Doug has successfully executed a series of real estate purchases and sales. Ranging from adding a 2nd story to a bungalow to restoring a 4-plexed Victorian back to a single family house, most of these purchases required extensive renovations. In these projects he was able to apply his instinctive flair and vision, but also to learn how to avoid many of the pitfalls of house construction and renovation in Toronto. In addition to his own projects, Doug has worked with a number of friends as marketing advisor, design consultant, and often as a manual labourer.

Community and cultural involvement are key parts of Doug’s life. Doug has also been an active participant in a book club he founded over 20 years ago. He has a keen interest in Toronto’s vibrant theatre scene and has been a member of the board of the innovative Theatre Columbus (www.theatrecolumbus.ca )and is an active supporter of Tarragon Theatre (www.tarragontheatre.com) . Currently, Doug is an active member of the board for AMREF Canada -African Medical & Research Foundation www.amrefcanada.com and in the past he was a board member of Evergreen Foundation Canada (www.evergreen.ca), and sat on the investment and finance committees for Macmillan Bloorview ( www.hollandbloorview.ca ). He plays ‘decent’ tennis at the Badminton & Racquet Club (www.thebandr.com ) and ‘eager’ golf at Scarboro Golf and Country Club (www.scarborogolf.com ).

Combining downtown acumen with extensive house knowledge and then mixing it with strong personality skills and a wry sense of humour, Doug Heighington is a great choice for advisor in Toronto real estate transactions.
